Wieliczka Salt Mine
🇵🇱 Kraków · Nature
Seven centuries of miners carved not just tunnels but an underground world — culminating in the Chapel of St. Kinga, a full church 100m down where even the chandelier crystals are salt. The 3km tourist route (800 steps, mostly down; a lift returns you) runs as guided tours and books out in summer. Touristy, spectacular, and rated accordingly.

Popular, but locals still go — a good sign.
🕐 Best time: Morning tours beat the coach groups; any season
💡 Local tip: Book the official site's English tour a few days ahead; commuter train from Kraków Główny gets you there in 25 minutes for PLN 6 (tours sell the same trip with a van and a markup). It's 14–16°C down there year-round — bring a layer in summer.
