Montmartre & Sacré-Cœur
🇫🇷 Paris · Culture
The artists' hill still earns its postcard: winding stairs, the white basilica, all of Paris below. Place du Tertre's portrait painters and the crêpe row are pure tourist economy now — charming if you know it, annoying if you expected 1920. The back slopes (rue des Abbesses, the vineyards, Villa Léandre) are where the village survives.

Firmly on the tourist trail. Go early or off-peak.
🕐 Best time: Before 9:30am, or blue hour
💡 Local tip: Climb via rue Foyatier at 8am for an empty basilica and the city in morning light. The 'friendship bracelet' men at the funicular base will grab wrists — hands in pockets, keep moving.
