Sensō-ji & Asakusa
🇯🇵 Tokyo · Culture
The giant red lantern, the incense cauldron, the five-storey pagoda — Sensō-ji is genuinely spectacular and genuinely heaving from 10am. The move everyone recommends: come at 7am when the temple is open, lit and empty, or after 9pm for the illuminated pagoda with no one in frame. Nakamise's snack stalls are fine; the side streets (Nishi-Sando, Hoppy Street) are better.

Firmly on the tourist trail. Go early or off-peak.
🕐 Best time: 7–8:30am or after 9pm (illuminations)
💡 Local tip: 7am or 9pm. Daytime? Duck one street west to Nishi-Sando for the same snacks without the crush, then melon pan at Kagetsudō.
